Arriva Scandinavia

Our aim is to grow our business in Sweden and to become the country’s leading public transport operator. We want you to be a part of our journey!

We are one of the largest public transport operators in Sweden and Denmark. We began operating in Scandinavia in 1997.

Every day, our 7,000 Scandinavian employees serve 700,000 passengers on our buses, trains or boats.

We are part of the Arriva Group, which has more than 42,000 employees in 12 European countries. In August 2010, the Arriva Group was acquired by Deutsche Bahn, however we continue to operate under the Arriva brand.

Bus

In 1997 Arriva took its first step into the Swedish market, with the purchase of Ödåkra Buss in Skåne. Today, we operate in Stockholm, Halmstad, Helsingborg, Jönköping, Malmö and from Trelleborg and hope to grow our business in the near future. In Denmark, Arriva is the largest operator in the market and we run more than 50 per cent of all buses in the country. We also aim to reduce our CO2 emissions by 20 per cent in 10 years and are investing in new technologies to reduce our fuel consumption. One such investment is an environmental monitoring system called GreenBox (or Falck Sirius), which is now installed in all 2,300 buses in Scandinavia to train our drivers to drive further on each litre of fuel. We also run a lot of our buses on alternative fuel including natural gas, biogas, ethanol or electricity (city coaches in Copenhagen only).

Train

Arriva operates trains in both Sweden and Denmark and contributes actively to the development of regional public transport. In Skåne, Arriva has operated the regional Pågatåg trains since 2007 and has worked hard to increase service punctuality. In 2009, 99,9 per cent of our trains were on time! Since 2009, we have also operated the Kinnekulletåget regional trains in the region between the cities of Gothenburg and Örebro. In Denmark, Arriva became the first private operator ever to win a contract after the bid on regional trains in Jylland in 2003. The contract was renewed in 2009 for a further nine years.

Boat

In Copenhagen, Arriva has operated the ‘water buses’ since the year 2000 and has managed to include sea travel in the regular ticket system for train and bus.

Innovation

We strive to be a proactive operator, with ideas and solutions to make leaving the car at home more attractive. Instead of using the car for every journey, we want our services to be the number one choice for people travelling to work, to school or in their leisure time and we work hard to ensure our services meet the needs of our customers. In Helsingborg, our cooperation with the city council and the transport authority Skånetrafiken has led to an increase of 50 per cent more passengers in just five years. The measures include new bus routes, timetable reviews and bus priority measures in the city. In Denmark, we offer free internet and TV-screens in our buses, something that might be adopted in the future by our Swedish services. Together with other improvements and campaigns, we have increased the passenger numbers by 30 percent on some of our routes, in just a few years. These are some of the results of a new type of incentive contract, whereby the transport authority pays operators more if they increase both passenger numbers and customer satisfaction. These contracts are common in Sweden and are becoming more common in Denmark.

Employees

Safety and customer satisfaction are two main every day priorities for our employees. We want each of them to make a difference for our customers. We are proud to have a diverse range of employees, with men and women of all ages and a diverse range of ethnic, cultural and lingual backgrounds. Cooperation and service delivery are central to providing great levels of customer service that make our employees satisfied and proud of their every day work and contribution to our business. And now, we want you onboard! Apply for the Arriva graduate programme now!
